Depending on what happens with the quarterback situation in Minnesota, the Vikings could trade wide receiver Jordan Addison. Coming off a close loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Vikings aren’t getting quarterback JJ McCarthy just yet. The expectation was that he was going to return this past week, but it seems like the team is taking the safe route to ensure that he is at full health. However, the Vikings are at the bottom of their division at 3-3, and backup Carson Wentz isn’t the most impressive signal-caller anymore, like he was with the Eagles in his prime.
Even if McCarthy returns, there’s no guarantee that he can pull this team out of the hole they’ve dug themselves in, and it might be better to trade Addison at this stage. Originally selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the former USC product still has a lot of time in his rookie contract. Despite that, he was the subject of trade rumors when standout receiver Justin Jefferson signed his blockbuster deal. It’s something to think about, considering that Addison might not particularly be a trade candidate due to his outstanding performance this year, but there’s still a chance.
To remain a devil’s advocate perspective, let’s assume that anything can really happen here, and here are some potential teams that would benefit from an Addison trade.

Potential Next Teams
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have one of the hottest offenses in the league, but given that the defense needs some work, they could use more pieces for Dak Prescott. This means they might have to trade for one more wide receiver to complete the blockbuster package between CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. It doesn’t mean it’s the biggest need, but Addison has the traits of a slant route receiver and could turn into a versatile weapon for Dallas. Jerry Jones has two extra first-round picks, and he is “open” for business, which means a trade could be on the horizon.
It’ll be interesting to see what the Cowboys do before the trade deadline, but imagine Addison joining Pickens and Lamb in one unit. This might be the offense that gets Dallas into the NFC Championship Game if this trade somehow comes to fruition.
New England Patriots
Meanwhile, speaking of hot, the New England Patriots are finally exploding this year, led by head coach Mike Vrabel. Quarterback Drake Maye is their franchise starter for a long time if consistency remains the same for the rest of his rookie contract. After signing Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Vrabel pulls off a midseason trade for a receiver. AJ Brown might be out of the question, but Addison is a real possibility.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers are still alive at 4-3, but it’s hard to imagine what the season holds for this year. After dropping three games while going on a four-game winning streak, they must find a way to reel in momentum into their stride. Quarterback Justin Herbert is still a top 5 signal-caller, but it’ll be up to Jim Harbaugh to put him in the best position. While they’re in the market for a running back, they should trade for a receiver to take Quentin Johnston’s spot at least.
