deGrom earns first win in two years
The Texas Rangers scored 15 big ones while the Not-Oaklands scored two small ones.
Well, that was pretty cathartic.
15 runs. 18 hits. 9 walks drawn. Every player in the starting lineup, except for ironically the designated hitter, had at least one hit. Three players with three hits. Three more with two hits. Ten hits with runners in scoring position. One opposing position player forced into pitching duty.
Before tonight, the Rangers’ season best in runs came in the first game of the season against these A’s back in the opener of their most recent road trip when they scored eight runs. Tonight, in the sixth inning alone, they matched that total.
This is what we signed up for.
Player of the Game: The whole lineup deserves love tonight for putting up a lot of runs and giving us an easy blowout win to enjoy. However, so too does tonight’s starting pitcher Jacob deGrom, who tossed six easy breezy scoreless innings on just 65 pitches.
deGrom allowed four hits but walked no one and struck out seven Athletics. The former Cy Young winner has perhaps aged himself out being the greatest pitcher on the planet, but this version of him is still pretty damn good and tonight the Rangers gave him plenty of runs to pick up his first big league win since April 23, 2023.
Up Next: The Rangers and Athletics play another one tomorrow evening with RHP Nathan Eovaldi set to make the start for Texas opposite RHP Luis Severino for the Northern California team.
The Wednesday evening first pitch from The Shed is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT and will be aired on the Rangers Sports Network.
