Rangers go down in a brisk two hours and two minutes
The Texas Rangers miraculously scored a run but the Detroit Tigers scored two runs.
Baseball is not supposed to be predictable. Tonight, however, and especially after everything that has transpired so far this season, the Rangers having to take on Tarik Skubal felt like an impossible task.
It went exactly as you might have thought it would. Skubal pitched perhaps the best game by an opposing starter against Texas all season with seven innings and 12 strikeouts to go along with zero walks. Here’s the surprise: The Rangers got two hits off Skubal and even scored a run against the reigning Cy Young winner.
It honestly didn’t look like Texas would get a baserunner tonight as Skubal looked special as he retired the first 15 Rangers batters in order. But baseball is nothing if not surprising even when it’s entirely predictable.
Player of the Game: Corbin deserved a much better fate than having to be tonight’s sacrificial lamb on the pitching side for Texas. At least he acquitted himself very well going seven innings and allowing just two runs on three hits against the AL’s top offense thus far.
Up Next: Another game for the Rangers against the Tigers with RHP Jacob deGrom next up for Texas opposite RHP Jack Flaherty for Detroit.
The Saturday evening first pitch from Comerica Park is scheduled for 5:10 pm CT and will be aired on the Rangers Sports Network.
