Texas was swept in the Bronx
The Texas Rangers had four hits but the New York Yankees had one run.
The starting pitchers for the Rangers allowed six runs in this series, an average of two runs per start. That went three runs by Patrick Corbin, two runs by Jacob deGrom, and one run by Nathan Eovaldi. It was a virtual cascade of relative excellence against arguably baseball’s toughest lineup at the moment.
The Rangers had two hits in this series with runners in scoring position in 17 chances. Neither actually plated a run. The Rangers scored five runs in this series total. The Rangers scored no runs today. The Rangers were swept.
The Rangers, practically a third of the way through the 2025 season, are below .500. Donnie Ecker would probably happily take over Bret Boone’s podcast.
Player of the Game: Nathan Eovaldi’s mistake today was that A. he made a mistake at all when pitching for the Texas Rangers and B. that mistake came at Yankee Stadium as known elite slugger Jorbit Vivas — he of the career .573 OPS — squirted a ball just beyond the little league dimensions in right field for the solo shot that would be all the runs that the Yankees would need.
Overall Nathan Eovaldi went six innings and allowed the one run on five hits, a walk, and six strikeouts. He was today’s losing pitcher.
Up Next: The Rangers will get an opportunity to take their frustrations out on the White Sox beginning tomorrow with RHP Tyler Mahle set to face off against RHP Sean Burke for Chicago.
The Friday evening first pitch from Rate Field in Chicago is set for 6:40 pm CT and will be aired via CW33 and Victory+.
