Texas had four hits
The Texas Rangers didn’t score but the St. Louis Cardinals scored two runs.
Well, at least they gave us a reprieve to remember what fun and interesting baseball looks like last night because we were mired right back in the muck today.
It’s still technically May but this feels like the 800th time I’ve cursed Patrick Corbin for giving up a couple of runs only to remember mid-blood pressure spike that it’s Patrick Corbin and him only allowing a couple of runs is a miracle that the Rangers keep wasting.
Granted, Sonny Gray was really good today. He allowed zero runs on four hits with a walk and ten strikeouts. But it’s hard to ever really know for sure who is actually on against this lineup and who is just having the good fortune of getting to face this lineup.
Anyway, the 2025 Rangers haven’t really followed up a moment where you think maybe they’ve figured things out with anything other than a game like this one. Just put your back into it and keep pushing that boulder.
Player of the Game: Corbin allowed two runs in 5 1⁄3 innings even if he wasn’t particularly sharp (3 H, 2 BB, 3Ks) during his 83 pitches. Still, you take that outing from Corbin any chance you get and Texas should have made better use of it.
If you crave something to pin your hopes on from today’s game, Marcus Semien was the only Ranger to reach twice with a hit and a walk so maybe he actually is breaking out of his yearlong slump after a 4-for-4 game yesterday.
Cole Winn came on for Corbin and tossed 1 2⁄3 innings of scoreless ball with a couple of strikeouts. Winn does not yet have an ERA after four appearances with Texas so far this season.
Up Next: The rubber match of this series is an early one with RHP Jacob deGrom set to make the start for Texas against RHP Erick Fedde for St. Louis.
Sunday’s finale first pitch from The Shed is set for noon central time and will be back on Roku streaming.
