Semien drives in three in 5-0 win
The Texas Rangers scored five runs while the Washington Nationals scored no runs.
I often have the Rangers on my television while I’m busying myself at my desk. Sometimes it’s a helpful tool to quasi-tune them out when they’re having a bad game like last night, but other times it’s nice to know that any time I look over, I’m liable to see Jacob deGrom finishing off another scoreless inning.
It seems like every time my eyes were drawn to the screen, deGrom was delivering a perfect pitch. I found myself drifting more and more from my tasks and focusing more and more on just watching deGrom paint. These are the best kinds of games, when something captivates.
Win or lose, it’s a treat that deGrom is a Ranger. He might not be in prime Mets era live 100 MPH with the world’s greatest slider while demonstrating perhaps the pinnacle for what a human being can accomplish throwing a baseball at max effort any more. But he still knows where to put the baseball and can get it there better than almost anyone else.
This version of deGrom is perhaps more sustainable, too. And man, he’s still so good. Today deGrom threw seven innings of two-hit ball with zero walks and eight strikeouts. He carved up the Nationals in those seven innings on just 81 pitches.
The bats scored two runs in the first inning and just let deGrom go to work. After he exited, they piled on three more insurance runs to help deGrom pick up a well earned sixth win of the season.
Player of the Game: Marcus Semien had a couple of hits and was responsible for driving in three of Texas’ five runs and is now sporting a 1.395 OPS in June. Semien would perhaps be the PotG were it not for the fact that he plays with a living legend who was at the top of his game today.

Up Next: A rubber match is set for tomorrow with a pitcher to be named for Texas facing off against RHP Trevor Williams for the Nationals.
The Sunday afternoon finale from Nationals Park is scheduled for 12:35 pm CT and will be carried on the Rangers Sports Network.
