It wasn’t easy, but the Rangers are walk-off winners today
The Texas Rangers scored five runs but the Chicago White Sox scored four runs in 11 innings.
That was like four incredibly frustrating hours of our lives that mercifully had a happy ending.
I spent much of this game sulking that the Rangers needed to scratch and claw a win against the White Sox in a game started by Jacob deGrom versus Mike Vasil. But they were able to do so despite going an unimaginable 4-for-23 with RISP while leaving an absurd 15 on base.
To accomplish the victory, the Rangers needed a wild pitch that scored a run and an error that scored a run that appeared to be the eventual game-winner until it wasn’t.
With two out in the ninth, Bruce Bochy called upon Robert Garcia to face pinch hitter Michael Taylor with a man on first. Garcia had struck out Taylor to end the game with the bases loaded yesterday but on his first pitch, which was right down the middle, Taylor doubled to tie the game.
After the Rangers didn’t score in the ninth, they were tasked with their first extra inning game of the season. Jacob Latz bookended the Jacobs on the mound for Texas today by not allowing Chicago’s Manfred Man to score in two chances and finally, with two outs in the 11th, Adolis Garcia connected for the game-winning hit.
On less fortunate days this season, the Rangers don’t pull this one out so we’ll take it and move on with our Saturday.
Player of the Game: Thank you, El Bombi for ending this game.
Up Next: The Rangers have an opportunity for a sweep against the White Sox with Texas not yet able to announce a starter for Sunday, though perhaps it will be Kumar Rocker, while Chicago will turn to recently acquired righty Aaron Civale.
The Sunday afternoon first pitch from The Shed is scheduled for 1:35 pm CT and will be carried on the Rangers Sports Network.
