Didn’t expect to miss the Coliseum
The Texas Rangers scored once but the Houston Astros scored many and very often until they had 15 runs.
Spencer Howard is a top pitching prospect but the Rangers are quickly finding out that perhaps there was a reason for why the Phillies were so quick to trade him.
That’s not my attempt at being dour about the trade, but more so that it’s now on Howard and Texas to figure out what made him a heralded guy in the first place and get him back on track.
Tonight, however, Howard was derailed by the Astros for six runs in 1 1⁄3 innings.
Before the early innings massacre had abated, Houston had put nine runs on a trio of Howard, Wes Benjamin, and A.J. Alexy through the first three frames. Eventually the Astros added six total runs on Alexy in a rude Silver Boot debut that spanned 3 2⁄3 innings.
More stuff happened after that but none of it good and I long stopped caring about this contest that lasted an excruciating four hours. It was enough to make one pine for watching the Rangers play in Oakland.
Player of the Game: Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 3-for-4.
