57-53 – To the surprise of no one, Rangers lose at T-Mobile

Rangers get 2023 Game 162’d by George Kirby

The Texas Rangers are awaiting their first run of the series but the Seattle Mariners scored six runs.

Well, at least the most memorable time that George Kirby dominated the Rangers at T-Mobile Park, they went on to have the best stretch in franchise history. As you might recall, the Rangers turned a 2023 game 162 shutout loss to Kirby and the M’s — a loss that prevented them from capturing the AL West title — into a month-long jaunt through October that concluded with a World Series victory.

So maybe this was all a good omen. One problem I see is the Rangers still have to play three more games at this accursed park and each one of them is pretty important.

I would now like to take the time to point out that, unlike the Rangers, the Seattle Mariners have never won the World Series. They do, however, now have a game lead on Texas for the American League’s final playoff spot after an entirely predictable outcome in the first game of this series.

Player of the Game: Former Mariners farmhand reliever Luis Curvelo made his MLB debut and immediately struck out Julio Rodriguez. He was really excited about it. Overall Curvelo finished his first ever appearance as a big leaguer with two scoreless innings and three Ks.

Welcome to the show, Luis!

Up Next: The Rangers will attempt to win their first game at T-Mobile Park in franchise history or something with RHP Jack Leiter on the mound for Texas opposite RHP Logan Gilbert for Seattle.

Settle in for more baseball in the middle of the night as first pitch is set for 9:10 pm CT. You can watch it on the Rangers Sports Network.
