58-54 – The impossible achieved as Rangers beat Mariners in 11

MLB: Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners

Now Kyle Seager’s spirit will live in the happy frog!

The Texas Rangers scored six runs while the Seattle Mariners scored four runs in eleven innings.

I don’t believe my eyes. A Rangers win at T-Mobile Park in a close game even with the Mariners doing their best to continue pulling magic directly from their rectums. Miracles are real!

T-Mobile Park jokes aside, that was a pretty gutsy win for the Rangers who could have succumbed after losing their early lead in regulation and with Merrill Kelly kind of forgetting the rules of baseball in his Rangers debut, necessitating a lengthy day from the relievers even though Kelly was overall pretty effective.

It was an especially resolute win after facing another Robert Garcia flameout with a chance to win an inning earlier than it ultimately took. Instead, Texas put together a sufficient rally in the 11th and finally buried the M’s.

The win gives the Rangers a chance to finish this god forsaken road trip with a series split. To do so, they’ll have to show that the curse has been fully lifted.

Player of the Game: Kyle Higashioka produced three of Texas’ six runs including his seventh homer of the year, a two-run shot that gave the Rangers an early 2-0 lead. Higashioka’s RBI in the tenth should have been the eventual game winner, but the Garcia closer experience happened again in the bottom of the inning.

I’d also like to highlight Luis Curvelo, who came in to clean up for Garcia in the tenth and then picked up the win with a scoreless eleventh in his second ever big league appearance. Ballsy.

Up Next: The finale of this series and road trip sees RHP Jacob deGrom take the mound for Texas against RHP Logan Evans for Seattle.

The Sunday afternoon first pitch from T-Mobile Park is scheduled for 3:10 pm CT and will be aired on the Rangers Sports Network.
