See you never, Friday night hats
The Texas Rangers scored a healthy six runs but the Cleveland Guardians scored nine big ones.
Things started out pretty good for the Rangers tonight as they scored two runs in the bottom of the second to take an early lead.
That was as good as things would get as starter Spencer Howard came apart a half inning later and eventually allowed eight runs — though only five ended up being earned — before he could get through four innings.
The curse of the hideous Friday night hats continued unabated until the bitter end.
If you want something positive, however, while the Rangers were getting blown out, the Pirates were beating the Reds to once again give Texas the “lead” for the 2022 No. 3 pick. Pittsburgh owns the tiebreaker so the Rangers will need to finish one game worse to secure the higher pick.
Player of the Game: Nathaniel Lowe had three hits and a walk in his four plate appearances. The first baseman also hit his 18th dinger of the 2021 season.
Up Next: The penultimate contest of the 2021 season between these Rangers and those Clevelanders will feature RHP Jordan Lyles making his final start of the season for Texas against RHP Triston McKenzie for Cleveland.
Saturday evening’s first pitch from The Shed is scheduled for 6:05 pm CT.
