The Rangers have swapped out long relievers
The Texas Rangers have recalled pitcher Caleb Boushley from AAA Round Rock. To make room for him on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned pitcher Dane Dunning to AAA Round Rock.
The Rangers used just two relievers in their win last night against the Angels, and both were the long men, so the higher leverage pitchers are all fresh and rested for the series this weekend in Houston. However, with both long men being used — and Jacob Latz, in particular, going over 50 pitches — the Rangers needed a fresh arm for the long man role in the series.
While you could argue for sending down Latz — who might not be available at all in this series — instead of Dunning, who threw just 14 pitches yesterday and thus could possibly be an option Saturday or Sunday, Latz has been the more tested of the two, and so Dunning is the odd man out in order to get Boushley up.
