Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Rangers are sending down Jake Burger and calling up Blaine Crim
MLB Rumors: Jake Burger is being optioned to AAA by the Texas Rangers, and will be replaced by Blaine Crim, according to Ken Rosenthal.
Team President Chris Young had indicated that moves could be imminent if the Rangers piss poor offense didn’t improve, and this would appear to be the first of those moves. Burger was acquired this past offseason to replace the under appreciated Nathaniel Lowe, with the Rangers looking to add power and fastball hitting ability. Burger has hit poorly so far this year, as has Joc Pederson, the Rangers other big offseason offensive addition.
Rosenthal says the idea is to give Burger a ““reset.” In the meantime, Crim will presumably take over at first base in the interim, although Josh Smith may also get some time there against righties once Corey Seager returns.
UPDATE — Evan Grant says a 40 man roster spot for Crim will be created by designating Nick Ahmed for assignment, with Jonathan Ornelas coming up until Seager returns.
