The Rangers have traded pitcher Daniel Robert to the Philadelphia Phillies
The Texas Rangers have traded pitcher Daniel Robert to the Philadelphia Phillies for pitcher Enrique Segura, it was announced today.
Robert, 30, was designated for assignment a couple of days ago in order to open up a spot on the 40 man roster for Dane Dunning, who then was designated for assignment yesterday to open up a spot on the 40 man roster for Tucker Barnhart. Robert allowed a pair of runs in 5.2 innings of work in the majors for Texas last season. Robert pitched well in AAA for Texas this year, putting up a 1.54 ERA in 11.2 IP over 10 appearances, with 17 Ks against 4 walks, but was caught in a numbers game and was one of a multitude of righty relief options at AAA. The Phillies are having bullpen problems currently, and so Robert has a good chance of being in the majors for Philadelphia at some point this summer.
Coming back in the deal is 20 year old Enrique Segura, a righthanded pitcher who is currently on the minor league injured list. He split the 2024 season between the Florida Complex League and low-A, and has thrown 17 innings over four appearances for Clearwater in low-A so far this season, with 19 Ks against 8 walks. Baseball America had him in a list of 10 prospects to know who were outside of the Phillies’ top 30 prospects earlier this year.
