Sam Haggerty has returned to the active roster
The Texas Rangers have activated outfielder Sam Haggerty from the injured list, the team announced today. To make room for Haggerty on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned infielder Cody Freeman to AAA Round Rock.
Haggerty landed on the injured list right before play resumed after the All Star Break with ankle inflammation, and Freeman was added to the active roster in his place, which also necessitated adding Freeman to the 40 man roster. Freeman, who caught from 2021-23 in the minors, was also the Rangers backup catcher on Wednesday, when Kyle Higashioka was out with a hamstring issue. Freeman returning to AAA would suggest that Higashioka is able to play again.
Haggerty has slashed .250/.329/.375 in 144 plate appearances this season, playing primarily against lefthanded pitchers. Freeman got into four games and was 1 for 7, though his one hit was an RBI double that helped spark the Rangers’ 7-2 win on Monday.
