The Texas Rangers will be playing shorthanded on Wednesday
Texas Rangers outfielder Kevin Pillar has been placed on the 10 day injured list with lower back inflammation, retroactive to May 4. No roster move to replace Pillar on the active roster is being made today, but will be made tomorrow. It is being reported that Ezequiel Duran will take Pillar’s place.
Pillar was signed this spring to a minor league deal, and made the Opening Day roster as the short-side platoon in center field. Pillar has not hit well in his limited playing time, slashing .237/.237/.289 in 38 plate appearances over 18 games.
Round Rock played today already in El Paso, and Duran was lifted mid-game, presumably because of Pillar’s having to go on the injured list. He had doubled in three plate appearances prior to being lifted. Duran is slashing .345/.390/.673 in 59 plate appearances since being sent down to AAA Round Rock last month.
