The Leody Taveras era has come to an end in Texas
The Seattle Mariners have claimed outfielder Leody Taveras on waivers from the Texas Rangers, it was announced today. Take Taveras’s place on the active roster is Evan Carter, who is being promoted from AAA Round Rock. With Taveras being claimed, the Rangers’ 40 man roster now stands at 39.
Taveras being on waivers was reported on Sunday, and the question was whether someone would claim him, or whether he would clear waivers and be outrighted to AAA. The Mariners opted to take him on, and the roughly $3.5 million remaining that he is due for 2025, which means the Rangers are out from under than figure and have additional room under the Collective Bargaining Tax threshold.
Taveras had been the longest-tenured player in the Rangers’ organization. Now that person is Jacob Latz.
Similarly, Evan Carter being called up to replace Taveras was announced yesterday by president of baseball operations Chris Young. This is just making that move official.
