The Rangers two new relievers are now on the active roster
The Texas Rangers have officially activated newly acquired relief pitchers Danny Coulombe and Phil Maton, the team announced today. To make room for the pair on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned Kumar Rocker and Jacob Latz to AAA Round Rock.
The Rangers traded for Coulombe and Maton yesterday, as well as Merrill Kelly, who has not been activated yet, and who I imagine the Rangers will not be officially activating until tomorrow, which gives them a day with an extra arm in the pen. I think it was expected that Rocker would be sent down, with the question being the identity of the other two pitchers who would be sent to AAA to make room for the new acquisitions.
I had assume that Luis Curvelo and Cole Winn would be the guys sent out, but instead, both are still here (at least until Kelly is activated) and Jacob Latz goes down. Latz has done very good work this season, but since his 84 pitch start against Detroit on the 20th, he’s not been sharp, and after throwing 35 pitches yesterday, he wasn’t going to be available for a couple of days.
