Rangers 3, Mariners 2

ARLINGTON, Texas, June 4 — The Texas Rangers took the middle game from the Seattle Mariners. The final score was 3–2. The Rangers got all the offense they needed on Saturday from the bat of Adolis Garcia. Garcia hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was a great way to even the series at one game apiece. The final game in this three-game set is on Sunday afternoon. First pitch on this getaway day for both teams is scheduled for 1:35 PM Central. The Mariners will send right-hander George Kirby (1–1, 3.46 ERA) to the mound in the matinee. The Rangers will counter with left-hander Martin Perez (4–2, 1.42 ERA).

Adolis Goes Deep in Middle Game

The three-run home run off the bat of Garcia came in the bottom of the fourth inning off Mariners starter Marco Gonzalez. The home run that he hit on Saturday was the third for Garcia in the last seven games that he has played. The round-tripper also drove in second baseman Marcus Semien, and catcher Mitch Garver. It was the third home run for Garcia in the last seven games that he has played. It was a great way to secure the win for the Rangers in this middle game. Elsewhere in the lineup, left fielder Charlie Culberson went 2-for-3 on Saturday with two singles to snap an 0-for-8 skid. It was also his second multi-hit game this season.

Mariners’ Offense in Middle Game

The one bright spot in this middle game for the Mariners came in the top of the fifth inning. Left fielder Jesse Winker hit a two-run home run off Rangers’ starter Glenn Otto. It went to right center field, and it drove in catcher Cal Raleigh along with Winker. Other than the home run, Seattle really didn’t have much to write home about other than numerous walks given up by Otto.

Pitching Notes

Righty Glenn Otto got the start for the Rangers on Saturday. He pitched five innings, and he did well. Otto gave up two runs, both of which were earned, on two hits, and he hit one batter. He also gave up the home run to Winker in the fifth inning. Otto struck out four. The only thing that Otto had trouble with was the walks. He gave up five free passes in the five innings that he pitched. He managed to get around them, however, and was able to get the win for the Rangers in the middle game. His record for 2022 now sits at 4–2, with an earned run average of 4.24.

Dennis Santana replaced Otto in the sixth inning. He had a perfect outing, striking out one batter. Lefty Matt Moore pitched the seventh inning, and struck out two. John King came on in the eighth inning, and only gave up two hits. The last one out of the pen for the Rangers was Joe Barlow. He struck out one in the ninth inning, and earned the save. It is his tenth save of the season. Marco Gonzalez got the losing decision for the Mariners. He pitched seven innings, giving up three runs, all earned, on five hits. He walked one, struck out five, and gave up the home run to Garcia. His record for 2022 now sits at 3–6, with an ERA of 3.59.
