Astros 4, Rangers 3

ARLINGTON, Texas, June 14 — The Texas Rangers went on to lose a heartbreaker to the Houston Astros on Tuesday by a final score of 4–3. Nathaniel Lowe had a two-run home run. However, it wasn’t enough. The third and final game in this series is on Wednesday afternoon at Globe Life Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM Central. Righty Luis Garcia (3–5, 3.60 ERA) will toe the slab for the Astros. Texas, meanwhile, has yet to announce their starting pitcher for the finale.

Lowe Goes Deep

The Rangers got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning. Rangers’ third baseman Ezequiel Duran scored on an RBI single by Marcus Semien. They would get their last two runs of the evening in the bottom of the fourth inning. With a man on base in the person of Adolis Garcia, Nathaniel Lowe stepped up to the plate. He then proceeded to hit a moonshot to center field to stretch the Rangers’ lead to 3–0. The outcome of the game looked promising for the Rangers at that point. However, it was not to be. They would go on to lose this heartbreaker of a game.

Astros Crawl Back

The score would remain 3–0 in favor of the Rangers until the top of the eighth inning. In fact, Houston did all of their scoring in the eighth. They scored their first run on a fielder’s choice. It was fielded by Rangers’ shortstop Corey Seager. Jose Altuve scored on the play, with Michael Brantley moving to second base, and Alex Bregman moved to second base on an error by Duran. Brantley scored moments later on a ground out by Yordan Alvarez. This brought Houston to within one at 3–2.

With Bregman still on second base, Astros’ right fielder Kyle Tucker stepped in, and hit a two-run home run to center field off reliever John King. The Rangers wouldn’t be able to pull off another comeback like they did the night before, as they would lose this heartbreaker of a game. The crowd of 29,370 were hoping to see this three-game winning streak continue. Instead they will have to wait until Wednesday to see if they can begin a brand new one.

Pitching Notes

Dane Dunning started on Tuesday for the Rangers, and he pitched well. He pitched six innings, and didn’t allow any runs. He gave up two hits, and four walks. Dunning also struck out four batters. Matt Bush came on in relief in the seventh inning. He pitched a perfect inning, and he struck out two. Then it was John King’s turn. He could only record one third of an inning before manager Chris Woodward had to pull him from the game. Dennis Santana finished King’s inning, and struck out one. Garrett Richards pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out one hitter.

King ended up with the losing decision for Texas. His record for 2022 is now 1–3, with an ERA of 5.19. He also has three blown saves. Astros’ Right-handed reliever Bryan Abreu got the winning decision. He pitched one inning, while allowing one hit and he had one strikeout. His record for the 2022 season is now 4–0, with an ERA of 2.49
