Rangers Offense Comes to Life Amid Rough Streak

August 16, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

The Texas Rangers’ offense has struggled for most of the year, but they flipped the script against the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier this week. On Monday, they went down big and came back to win 7-6 in 10 innings. This couldn’t come at a better time for this offense, as they have been in a hole of late, failing to score more than two runs in their previous five games.

Texas Rangers Offense Wakes Up at Crucial Time

The Rangers’ offense has ranked near the bottom in most offensive metrics and is the main reason the team is only hovering around .500. Corey Seager is the heartbeat of the lineup, and is the one who usually drags the team along and needs help from the others. Wyatt Langford’s home run was his first one since July 11. The Rangers are going to rely on him for a playoff push.

Joc Pederson’s bat is heating up, hitting .333 with a homer and four walks in his last seven games. He was thought of as a big left-handed bat to replace Lowe and give them great production. They are going to need more out of Adolis Garcia, Marcus Semien, and Josh Jung, as well as others.

The Starting Pitching

The Rangers won’t have to adjust much here, as the starters rank first in ERA while the bullpen ranks fourth in ERA. The Rangers have aces in Nathan Eovaldi and Jacob deGrom, who can lead the team to a win anytime that they pitch. Merrill Kelly is a great third starter that the Rangers got at the trade deadline. Jack Leiter and Patrick Corbin round up the rotation, as they both boast ERAs that are under four. That is great for a journeyman who has struggled recently and a rookie finding his footing in MLB.

The Bullpen

Their bullpen boasts a great mix of arms. They added relievers Phil Maton and Danny Coulombe at the deadline. Both have excelled, each allowing just one run. Hoby Milner, a funky left-hander, boasts a 2.17 ERA while pitching significant innings. Shawn Armstrong, his right-handed counterpart, holds a 2.75 ERA.

Cole Winn has been a pleasant development, as he boasts an ERA under one. The final arm is Robert Garcia, who is having a tumultuous year. He has a 3.33 ERA and has been largely solid. However, he struggled as a closer with nine saves against six blown saves. He has moved into the seventh or eighth inning as a setup guy.

The Manager

Bruce Bochy is at the helm of this team, and he knows a lot about winning. He oversaw a dynasty with the San Francisco Giants, where he won three World Series. One of those Fall Classic wins came over the Texas Rangers in 2010, and the others came in 2012 and 2014. He also won one with the Rangers in 2023. Judging by history, he’s bound to win one every other year, so it might be a Bochy year again.

Remaining Season Outlook

The Rangers are sitting 3 1/2 games out of a Wild Card spot entering Friday’s action. They will have big series against the Cleveland Guardians and Houston Astros, who are teams that sit in front of them in the playoff standings. If the bats keep hitting like they did on Monday, they can help the pitching staff and Bochy repeat history.
