First baseman Jake Burger has been placed on the injured list
The Texas Rangers have placed first baseman Jake Burger on the 10 day injured list retroactive to July 13 with a left quad strain, the team announced today. No move to replace him on the active roster has been made as of yet.
With this move, Burger will miss at least the first five games after the All Star Break, and would be eligible to return on Wednesday, July 23. He injured his quad Friday against the Astros, and though he pinch hit in Saturday’s game, he did not play on Sunday.
The Rangers held off on making an i.l. move initially, as they were not sure that he would miss enough time to necessitate a move. With the Rangers not playing again until Friday, Burger would miss just six games if he was activated after the minimum ten days. The Rangers will presumably recall someone on Friday to take Burger’s spot on the roster, with Justin Foscue seemingly the most likely candidate.
