Rangers Tigers

Tigers 11, Rangers 2

ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug 27 — The Texas Rangers fell to the Detroit Tigers on Saturday evening at Globe Life Field by a final score of 11–2. The Rangers’ only spark of offense came in the bottom of the ninth inning on a solo home run by Adolis Garcia. The Rangers just didn’t have the momentum that they had on Friday night when they went on to beat the Tigers by a final score of 7–6. Rangers fans are hoping that the home-nine can win the rubber game in this series. That game will be on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM Central. The Tigers will hand the ball to right-hander Drew Hutchison (1–7, 4.06 ERA). The Rangers will send Kohei Arihara (1–1, 2.31 ERA) to the bump in the finale.

Rangers Fall to Tigers

The Rangers fell behind early to the Tigers. In the top of the first inning, the Tigers jumped out to a 1–0 lead. Shortstop Javier Baez drove in Victor Reyes with a sharp single to centerfield. Two batters later, Willi Castro drove in Baez with a single of his own. This one was lined to right field. The Tigers made it 3–1 in the top of the second inning. A sacrifice fly by Victor Reyes allowed catcher Tucker Barnhart to score from third base. Moments later, centerfielder Riley Greene scored on an infield single to short by Baez.

The Tigers didn’t score again until the top of the fifth inning. Victor Reyes scored on again. This time it was a sacrifice fly by Eric Haase that brought him in. This put the score at 5–1 in favor of the Tigers. The Rangers fell further behind in the top of the sixth inning. A two-run home run by third baseman Jeimer Candelario made it 7–1 Tigers.

More Offense

Detroit scored again on yet another sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning. This one came off the bat of second baseman Zack Short, and it drove in Candelario. The Tigers next two runs came on a two-run homer by Eric Haase in the top of the ninth inning. The Rangers scored their first run of the evening in the bottom of the first inning. Second baseman Marcus Semien crossed the plate on a single by Nathaniel Lowe.

The Tigers scored once more in the top of the ninth inning on a force out that allowed Willi Castro to score. in a last ditch effort by the Rangers, outfielder Adolis Garcia, who extended his hitting streak to 22 straight games earlier in the evening, crushed a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to make it 11–2. As excited as it made the fans in attendance, it wasn’t enough to seal the win.

Pitching Notes

Lefty Dallas Keuchel, who was recently added to the taxi squad by the Rangers, got the start on Saturday. Keuchel took the loss in his Rangers debut on this night. He pitched 5 1/3 innings.
