Rangers Star Discusses Team’s Confidence After Offensive Explosion vs. Athletics

May 8, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

Marcus Semien led a confident Texas Rangers team to a 15-run outburst during Tuesday’s big victory over the Oakland Athletics.

Texas defeated Oakland on Monday by a final score of 15-8. The football-like score was a product of Texas’ potent offense coming to life. The Rangers rotation has dealt with a plethora of injuries to open the new campaign, but the offense has played a role in keeping the team afloat. It was Semien’s turn to lead the way in Tuesday’s victory. He went 4-for-5 at the plate with a home run, five RBI, three runs scored, and eight total bases. In fact, he was a triple shy of the cycle by the second inning.

It was an all-around stellar effort from the team’s lineup against the Athletics. Jonah Heim added four hits, while Leody Taveras, Corey Seager, Nathaniel Lowe, and Josh Smith all recorded multi-hit games.

Semien addressed the Rangers’ offensive performance after the win, via Bally Sports Southwest.

“Just momentum from last night. Once we woke up, got a lead, we showed up today ready to score some runs,” Semien said. “That’s a good feeling. Baseball works like that.”

Marcus Semien, Rangers Confident During Dominant Win Against Athletics

Semien has endured an up-and-down 2024 season for the most part. Perhaps Tuesday’s performance will help the Rangers infielder begin to replicate his 2023 All-Star numbers.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy also addressed Texas’ 15-run outing.

“It’s good to break out,” Bochy said. “We had a lot of good things going on there… Had some really big hits too.”

Bochy later added that Semien “got things going” for the team.

Rangers Surging Up Standings

The Rangers now hold a 21-16 record. They have been battling with the Seattle Mariners for the top spot in the American League West. Texas now holds a slim half-game lead over Seattle. Meanwhile, the Athletics are surprisingly in third place. Oakland was expected to struggle mightily in 2024, but the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels both currently have worse records than the Athletics.

Texas is only concerned about winning the division, however. Marcus Semien and the Rangers will look to carry their momentum into Wednesday’s rematch with the Athletics.
