The Rangers have activated Josh Sborz from the injured list
The Texas Rangers have activated pitcher Josh Sborz from the injured list, it was announced today. To make room for Sborz on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned pitcher Grant Anderson to AAA Round Rock. In addition, the team announced last night that Jared Walsh cleared waivers, was outrighted to AAA Round Rock, rejected the assignment, and is now a free agent.
Sborz was expected back at some point this week, with the question being how many rehab appearances he would make. The answer turned out to be “one,” which Bruce Bochy kind of hinted at yesterday, indicating that they were going to talk to Sborz and then make a decision. Sborz struck out two of three batters he faced in a rehab appearance with Frisco on Tuesday.
Anderson was called up yesterday in place of Austin Pruitt, who was placed on the injured list with a knee injury. It seemed likely that either Pruitt or Cole Winn would be dropped to make room for Sborz when he was ready to be activated, and it turned out that Pruitt’s injury made him the odd man out.
As for Walsh, his becoming a free agent was expected. He could end up re-signing with the Rangers on a minor league deal, but will likely look for the team that would provide him with the best opportunity to get back on a major league roster.
