Texas Rangers Recap: The Final Week

Looking back at the final week of the Rangers’ 2021 season

Season record: 60-102

Week 27 record: 3-3

Series record: 15-32, 5 split

The Rangers’ final week of the 2021 season wasn’t their worst and I guess that’s really all we could’ve asked for right? Although they became a 100-loss team… at lease they didn’t lose 110 like the Baltimore Orioles or the Arizona Diamondbacks so we’ll always have that.

Texas will draft third in the 2022 draft next year, one better than 2015! So that’s exciting, right?

Most of the final batting stats for the Rangers 2021 ended with Adolis Garcia or Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Garcia led Texas home runs with 31, the most of any Ranger rookie in franchise history, most RBIs at 90, and runs scored at 77. IKF led the team in batting average at .271 and stolen bases at 20, and had the most at-bats at 635. Nathaniel Lowe led the team in OPS with .771. Lowe also earned the most walks on the team at 80, next would’ve been Joey Gallo at 74, before the list falls off a cliff at Nick Solak with 34.

Jordan Lyles led the team in most pitching stats… with no offense to Lyles I think that shows a lot of why they ended up in the standings where they did. He ended up with the best ERA technically speaking, because he was the only pitcher who qualified. He had a 5.15 ERA. He led the team in wins, 10, and strikeouts at 146. He also walked the most players of any pitcher on the team. So you win and you really lose.

Also for what it’s worth, in the final game of the season, Matt Bush was activated and pitched a perfect inning.

Hopefully, fingers crossed, the Rangers are better in 2022, if even just slightly. But I think it’s safe to say the worst part of next year, at least that we can be sure of in this moment, it’ll be TAG’s last season on the broadcast.

Rangers Hall of Famer Tom Grieve announced on today’s BSSW broadcast that 2022 will be his final season in the broadcast booth. It will be Grieve’s 28th year as a broadcaster, the longest tenure in club history for a TV announcer, and his 55th year with the franchise.
