Thoughts on a 16-3 Rangers win

  • That’ll juice the ol’ Pythagorean won-loss percentage.
  • 16 runs, 16 hits, 9 walks, 6 home runs for the Rangers. The Rangers have never hit all of those marks in one game before. This was only the 11th time in MLB history that a team has had at least 16 runs, 16 hits, 9 walks and 6 home runs in a game.
  • Quite the offensive explosion, it was.
  • Was there pitching by the Rangers? I guess there was. I vaguely seem to recall that Patrick Corbin started the game, and I think he pitches for the Rangers, not for Minnesota. Texas allowed just three runs in then game so presumably Corbin pitched okay.
  • The other notable things on the pitching side is that Cole Winn threw yet another scoreless inning, and Ezequiel Duran threw yet another scoreless inning.
  • Sixteen runs, on the road, at the end of a nine game road trip. Texas hadn’t scored 16 runs in a game in over two years, and then they did it twice in three days.
  • Wyatt Langford, 2 for 4 with a homer and a couple of walks. Evan Carter, 2 for 4 with a homer and a walk. The two young outfielders we have hoped would be major parts of the offense, producing.
  • Jake Burger with three hits, including a homer. Josh Jung with three hits. Josh Smith with a pair of hits, including a homer.
  • It’s still just a couple of games, now, a couple of big performances. We can’t say the offense is fixed. We have been tricked into thinking that before.
  • But if the offense gets fixed, this is a lot like what it would look like.
  • Patrick Corbin’s sinker topped out at 92.4 mph, averaging 91.0 mph. Hoby Milner’s sinker hit 86.0 mph. Cole Winn’s fastball reached 95.5 mph. Chris Martin got up to 95.0 mph with his fastball.
  • Jake Burger had a 105.8 mph ground out, a 104.0 mph single, and a 102.6 mph home run. Josh Jung had a 103.7 mph line out, a 102.0 mph single and a 102.0 mph double. Evan Carter had a 103.3 mph home run and a 103.0 mph ground out. Adolis Garcia had a 103.3 mph fly out and a 102.8 mph home run. Josh Smith had a 103.3 mph home run and a 101.1 mph single. Kyle Higashioka had a 102.2 mph single. Sam Haggerty had a 102.0 mph home run. Marcus Semien had a 101.9 mph fly out. Wyatt Langford had a 101.4 mph single and a 100.2 mph home run.
  • The road trip that started so poorly has now ended on a positive note. Back home the Rangers come.
