Tigers 2, Rangers 1
Tigers 2, Rangers 1
- Well, we weren’t expecting the Rangers to win this game, and they didn’t.
- I would say that you don’t win many games when you only have three hits, but the Tigers only had three hits as well. Oops.
- Patrick Corbin had a weird game. He allowed just two runs in seven innings — lowering his ERA to 3.13, which is something I know none of us were expecting. But he wasn’t missing bats. He had just four swinging strikes, per Statcast, out of 93 pitches in all. He struck out just three batters, and walked four.
- But despite that, Corbin allowed just three hits.
- One of the runs wasn’t even necessarily something that should have been a run. With two outs and Colt Keith on first in the second inning, Dillon Dingler hit a line drive to left-center for what seemed off the bat to be a single. Wyatt Langford, however, seemed to have perhaps lost the ball in the sun, made a weird diving attempt at it, had it go past him, and as a result Keith was able to score and Dingler was credited with a double.
- Anyway, Patrick Corbin may be this year’s Michael Lorenzen.
- The offense was bad. Skubal struck out 12 in seven innings, and generated 32 swinging strikes. He’s been outstanding since the start of last season, but still…
- Sam Haggerty, newly called up, had one of the hits, and an RBI on the Rangers’ one run, which was scored by Josh Smith, who had one of the other three hits. Evan Carter had a pinch hit single for the third hit.
- Wyatt Langford is hitless and is now slashing .194/.257/.194 for the month of May. Blaine Crim was 0 for 2 before being lifted for pinch hitter Joc Pederson and is now 0 for 11 to start his major league career.
- Patrick Corbin hit 92.1 mph with his sinker. Jacob Webb reached 93.3 mph with his fastball.
- Adolis Garcia had a 105.5 mph fly out. Jonah Heim had a 104.4 mph ground out. Evan Carter has a 102.1 mph single. Sam Haggerty had a 101.8 mph line out.
- Let’s get back to winning again.
