Rangers 5, Nationals 0
Rangers 5, Nationals 0
- Its a return to the win column.
- Man, Jacob deGrom is good. And is good as a member of the Texas Rangers, to boot.
- Just 81 pitches to go seven innings. He had a shot at a Maddux if Bruce Bochy and the Rangers weren’t being cautious with his workload.
- deGrom’s approach was pretty simple. He threw mostly fastballs and sliders, and the Nationals couldn’t handle it. He did throw 7 changeups, but they mostly went for balls. He generated 10 whiffs on the slider and 5 on the fastball.
- Eight Ks on the game for deGrom. No walks, though he hit a batter, and two base hits. It was masterful.
- Luke Jackson tried to stress everyone out by giving up a single and then issuing a walk to start the bottom of the eighth, with the Rangers up 5-0, but a GIDP and a GISP ended that.
- And Chris Martin pitched! And threw more than one pitch in the game! Huzzah!
- Making things better was the offense deciding to show up. Marcus Semien had a single-cum-error that resulted in two runs scoring in the first, though he got credit for just one RBI because of the error part. He doubled home two runs in the eighth, later scoring on an Adolis Garcia single.
- I’m holding my breath and crossing my fingers that Marcus Semien keeps this up.
- Jacob deGrom’s fastball maxed out at 99.3 mph, averaging 97.7 mph. Luke Jackson topped out at 94.7 mph with his fastball. Chris Martin’s fastball reached 95.4 mph.
- Wyatt Langford had a 105.9 mph single and a 102.0 mph ground out. Marcus Semien had a 104.6 mph double. Kyle Higashioka had a 103.4 mph line out. Sam Haggerty had a 102.5 mph groundout. Josh Jung had a 101.8 mph single. Jonah Heim had a 101.3 mph line out.
- Let’s enjoy the Jacob deGrom performance and the victory.
