Thoughts on a 5-2 Rangers loss

May 24, 2024 by Lone Star Ball

MLB: Texas Rangers at Philadelphia Phillies

Phillies 5, Rangers 2

Phillies 5, Rangers 2

  • Things are rather unpleasant right now for the Rangers.
  • Theres been a Groundhog Day quality to recent games, it seems like. Losing games in the same way, the same fashion, with little offense and usually good enough starting pitching that makes it that much more frustrating that advantage isn’t being taken.
  • Once again, there was a dearth of extra base hits, with Adolis Garcia’s homer being the only one. Hell, there weren’t that many hits, period, which has felt like a recurring theme as well.
  • The Rangers loaded the bases and didn’t score, which has happened all too often of late.
  • And so then I wonder, did the Rangers get an advance on good performance and good fortune in 2023, and are now paying that back, with interest? I mean, if so, I will accept that trade off, but still…
  • Or maybe it is something about Bruce Bochy, who had the even year magic with the Giants in 2010 and 2012 and 2014, with disappointing seasons in between? Did the Baseball Fates just decide that Bruce Bochy teams would follow up a World Series win with a fallow season? And if so, should I start getting hyped about 2025?
  • It is baffling and bewildering and deflating. It won’t continue, of course, but it isn’t clear when it is going to end.
  • The waiting is the hardest part.
  • Andrew Heaney topped out at 93.6 mph with his fastball. Grant Anderson hit 92.8 mph on the one fastball (non-sinker variety) he threw. Jesus Tinoco maxed out at 97.3 mph with his sinker. Jose Leclerc’s fastball reached 96.1 mph.
  • Leody Taveras had a 106.1 mph single. Adolis Garcia’s home run was 105.4 mph. Nathaniel Lowe had a 103.2 mph single. Travis Jankowski had a 101.4 mph single.
  • On to Minnesota, where hopefully things will suck less.
