Rangers 8, Rockies 3
Rangers 8, Rockies 3
- A sweep!
- And even better, no relievers injured after one pitch in the ninth!
- Patrick Corbin continues to be better than expected, and while you may not buy him continuing this success in the long-term — or even in the medium-term — Corbin once again did his job, eating innings and not giving up too many runs.
- In fact, it was Corbin’s second straight Quality Start, and his nine strikeouts were the most he has recorded since June 28, 2023.
- Yes, it was against the rather pitiful Colorado Rockies, who are on pace to win just 26 games this year, but still.
- Particularly important was the six innings Corbin contributed, given that both Chris Martin and Luke Jackson were unavailable. By the time the seventh rolled around the lead was big enough that Caleb Boushley, who hadn’t pitched for a week, was able to be summoned, and while he didn’t pick up the three inning save we would have preferred — after allowing a pair of singles in the ninth Bruce Bochy decided that was enough fun for the Rockies and went and got Robert Garcia to finish things out — the Corbin/Boushley combo at least was responsible for 25 outs, which is a positive.
- Patrick Corbin and Caleb Boushley combining for 25 outs while allowing three runs in a win in the major leagues in the Year of our Lord 2025 is just another piece of evidence of how weird baseball is.
- Texas scored all the runs it needed in the first, as the first six batters reached, and according to the broadcast, that’s the first time this year a team has led off the game with its first six batters reaching. Single, homer, single, single, single, walk, then a fielder’s choice that scored a run. A GIDP ended things, but Texas was up 4-0 at that point and everyone was feeling all cozy and pleased.
- The Rangers pushed Antonio Senzatela’s WHIP on the season up over 2 early on, but I regret to inform you it dropped back under and is now 1.993.
- There was traffic on the bases for Texas, what with 11 hits and 7 walks. Every starter got a hit except for Evan Carter, who drew two walks. Wyatt Langford and Adolis Garcia had home runs, and home runs are always fun.
- Texas is now back in second place in the West, tied with the Astros, and one game behind the Mariners of Seattle. Texas has also gotten their run differential back to even on the year, which is a nice thing. We don’t like negative run differentials. Those aren’t fun.
- The Rangers have also crept all the way up to 26th in runs per game. Progress!
- Patrick Corbin hit 93.5 mph with his sinker. Caleb Boushley’s fastball touched 93.9 mph. Robert Garcia’s fastball maxed out at 95.6 mph.
- Adolis Garcia had a 109.9 mph single and a 106.5 mph home run. Jake Burger had a 108.3 mph double. Josh Smith had a 108.2 mph single and a 100.1 mph line out. Josh Jung had a 107.8 mph single. Wyatt Langford had a 107.5 mph ground out and a 105.2 mph home run. Joc Pederson 106.2 mph ground out. Marcus Semien had a 102.1 mph fly out.
- Now the hated Astros of Houston come to town for four games. Let’s keep this recent stretch of quality play going.
