With the Dallas Cowboys largely sitting on their hands throughout free agency, many NFL fans are starting to feel that head coach Mike McCarthy is a sitting duck and doomed to fail in 2024. But if anyone is out there pitying him, he’d like them to stop.
According to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, McCarthy has a simple message for people: Don’t feel bad for him. He explained that he believes he’s in “a great spot” heading into the season and does not feel any added pressure.
“Don’t feel bad for me,’’ McCarthy said. “I’m in a great spot.
“I don’t see it as more pressure. I think it’s just the reality of our industry. That’s what it is. Those are business decisions and those are really personal, frankly, because we are subcontractors when it comes to the financial component of it.”
McCarthy made it clear that he still has eyes on “the big picture” in Dallas and is happy for the opportunity.
“You can’t lose sight of the big picture. Make no bones about it. I am extremely blessed to be here. I’m very much engaged where my feet are and the opportunities I’ve had personally. I’m very blessed. I never lose sight of that.’’
While that’s certainly a good mindset to have in almost any situation, it’s probably not going to save him if he doesn’t bring the Cowboys back to the playoffs and take them on a deep postseason run and preferably to the Super Bowl.
Will 2024 be Mike McCarthy’s last stand?
